The Corn Maze Saga

Two days ago, Alex came home with exciting news about a field trip to a Corn Maze, for which I would need to give him four dollars. I plied him with questions.

When? The next day.

How was he to get there? I was to drive him.

Where was it? You go to Stone's Corner (a local landmark) and then go somewhere from there.

What time? Between 4:00 and 6:00.

Did his teacher send home anything about this? Yes, but he left it at school, but it will all be okay if we just show up (with the money), and he really wants to go.

I emailed his teacher. I found out the following: (1) the Corn Maze trip is not for two weeks and (2) she gave him a permission slip that he needs to get signed in order to go. I told Alex he needs to bring that permission slip home in time for it to be signed and returned to school before the actual trip, and, if he does that, he can go. I am hoping the slip will contain the crucial details I am still missing.

But there's more...

Today Alex came home with news that he tried out for the Knowledge Bowl Team at school and probably made it, but he didn't know for sure. The Knowledge Bowl is this Monday, he said, from 4:00 until 7:00 or maybe 6:00. He said he will find out soon if he made it, and he was kind of excited in a disinterested 11-year-old boy sort of way. This activity is with the same teacher as the Corn Maze trip.

Just before bed, I remembered about his Corn Maze permission slip. Alex happily told me it was in his backpack, and I went to get it. I was proud that he had remembered, and I was also proud that his backpack is not a mess of a thousand papers this year (that has been a big project).

There was no Corn Maze permission slip. The bright green permission slip in his backpack was for the Knowledge Bowl Team which he had, indeed, made.

Is there something not quite right here? I can't tell anymore.

I do hope we all get to go to the Corn Maze. Melissa is really looking forward to it.
